In 1957, Dad was transferred to Mt. Home AFB, Idaho. Â We traveled by plane from Japan to Seattle, via the Aleutians. Â In Seattle, Dad bought a 1956 Ford, and we drove to Idaho.
Mt. Home was a misnomer: southern Idaho was mostly flat desert, with only sagebrush growing. Â We did vacation in northern Idaho many summers, at McCall and Sun Valley. Â And the Snake River Dam near our home provided picnic areas and fishing.Â
Lots of fishing and vacation pictures. Â The fishing may have been from the Snake River Dam near where we lived; the vacations are northern Idaho.
Several pictures show the  small fenced in yard of our house, with mom’s garden. For Christmas 1958 Dad made Susan a dollhouse, and gave Frank his old electric train, which nana had sent him.  Â
Frank’s first communion, another northern Idaho vacation (we rented the trailer), and Carolyn turns 4. Â
Susan makes her first communion, Carolyn is 5. For Christmas, lots of dolls, and Frank is now building model planes. Â
Our final year in Idaho–In the spring, Frank has finished 4th grade, Susan 3rd, and Michael is 1. Â
Dad was then transferred to Pease AFB, and he and mom begin planning our long trip to New Hampshire via New Orleans. Â
Mom and Dad had not seen their parents since 1954–7 years.
