In the spring of 1961, Dad was transferred to Pease AFB in New Hampshire.  We moved in the summer, driving in our un-air conditioned 1956 Ford across Utah, Colorado, New Mexico and Texas down to New Orleans first; then up the East coast to Massachusetts.

We stayed with nana and grampy in Massachusetts for a time–until about Labor Day–because we could not yet get housing at Pease.  We moved just in time to start school.  Frank was in 5th grade, Susan 4th, and Carolyn 1st.  Michael was 1.

These New Hampshire pictures are arranged into 4 different albums two spanning 1961-66, one of our Massachusetts cousins, and one of our trip to New Orleans in 1965.

Many of these New Hampshire pictures were undated, so I simply grouped them into two albums here, and tried to put the earlier pictures first.  With 4 children, Mom and Dad mostly just took pictures on birthdays and Christmas.  Mom had begun making animal cakes on our birthdays.

New Hampshire still, all a little older.  Carolyn makes her first communion, Princess joins us, and Michael turns 5. 

The previous album contains a picture of the Pease AFB front gate, as well as a view of the church from my bedroom window.  We could see the front gate from a hill in front of our house, and we’d stand there watching for Auntie’s red Ford Falcon when she came to visit. 

New Hampshire Cousins

While we lived in New Hampshire, we made frequent trips down to Hudson/Marlborough to visit Dad’s parents, Aunt Dorothy and Uncle George, and our 5 cousins.  

The drive was about 80 miles, but it seemed to take forever.  By 1964, Dad had bought a lightly used 1964 Ford Galaxy 500, which he kept until the early 1970s.

New Orleans Trip: 1965

In the summer of 1965 we took a trip to Washington DC and then to New Orleans.  Mom and Dad had not been back to visit grandma in 4 years, since we had moved to New Hampshire.
